Okay, I feel like I need to explain the hell out of this thing. You'll notice that it's a really, really significant departure from what I usually write. My defense? I had to! They made me! No seriously, it was the first challenge for sd_ldws. The prompt: Write crackfic. Word limit: 300 (And yes, that did damn near kill me. My first draft? 534 words.)

Title: Three Basic Rules
Fandom: Hawaii 5-0 (2010)
Pairing: Gen
Rating: PG
Length: 300
Written for: sd_ldws Challenge #1
Summary: Steve figured there had to be a reason Danny hates the beach, hates the sunlight and refuses to surf, but he never expected this.
Warnings: none

Steve thought the bullet had only hit the headlight, but as Danny’s car died on a moonlit backroad at quarter-to-one, he realized he may have been wrong.

Danny glared at him. “’Only cosmetic damage’. Why do I listen to you?”

Steve hit the hood-release, certain he could repair the damage and get them home before dawn. “I’ll fix it; you sit there and whine. Once I’m done, I expect you to spring for burgers on the way back.”

Danny flipped him off. “I cannot eat this late at night.” He climbed out to watch Steve tinker. “So… what’d you do to my car?” Steve fiddled with a hose - which promptly popped loose and sprayed water on Danny.

“Oh fuck! You did not get me wet!” Danny jumped back, swearing and trying desperately to wipe the water off on anything available.

Wondering how the hell a little water rated that much drama, Steve turned and saw something rolling and pulsing under Danny’s shirt before three little fuzzy balls plopped out.

“Holy shit!” Steve barked, eyes wide. “This is why you won’t surf? Why you hate the Hawaiian sun? You’re a damn Gremlin?”

“Mogwai, fuck-you-very-much,” Danny mumbled as the three furballs uncoiled into small critters with abnormally huge eyes.

Steve blinked owlishly. “Christ, this is where Grace came from?”

“That’s what you want to say to me, right now?”

“That’s what sprang to mind first. This is why you hate the beach. The water, the sun. And no burgers… it’s after midnight.” Steve was practically giddy with figuring it out.

“Yeah, well, I figure, you’re the one with a dark basement for these guys.”

Steve’s eyes got wide. “Wait, did I just become an unwed-father, Gizmo?”

Danny grinned as he got back in the car and Steve went back to work.

comments

Prompt words: foreign and domestic

Callen is under absolutely no illusions about what his team expects of him now. Sam is dealing with his grief and helplessness by escorting Dom’s body to the morgue. Nate is filling out the paperwork necessary for Dom’s parents to receive his death benefits. Hetty is filling out Dom’s termination paperwork in between bouts of counseling agents and techs who have never lost a teammate before. Kensi is mopping up the crime scene, combing it relentlessly for bullets and casings and anything else they can use to bring down anyone within a lightyear of this clusterfuck.

Eric has been staring at the freezeframe of Dom’s face on the video – just before he was shot, Sam’s name still on his lips in warning – and crying for at least the hour Callen has been back.

Callen has called Vance, arguing the point and winning that he should make the first call to Dom’s parents. Vance could call once their shock had worn off. He called, asking for Mr. Vaile and trying not to sound as detached as he’s starting to feel.

Sam’s back by the time Callen’s off the phone – Callen can hear the rhythmic thwap-thwap-thwap of his hands on the bag hanging upstairs.

Callen opens his laptop and begins to comb through the various forms and reports on the server for the ones he needs before just searching for ‘terrorism’. When it comes back with the reply ‘FOREIGN or DOMESTIC’ Callen leans back in his chair and stares at the blue text on white.

Suddenly he has to think about exactly how this happened. That it happened in their own backyard. That Sam literally had Dom in hand and they still managed to lose him to foreign terrorists.

Hoping everyone else is too wrapped up in their own grief, Callen pushes his laptop aside and rests his head on his folded arms, letting the first tear fall. He’ll give himself five minutes to get it back under control, and then he’ll go back to being what his team needs.

comments

Prompt word: Moderation. (go figure)

Callen groaned and pulled his pillow over his head. Sam’s alarm was cutting straight through his head. He wasn’t entirely sure that moving enough to kill it wouldn’t be just enough to make the rolling in his stomach turn into an Olympic level puke-fest.

After what seemed like hours, he heard a slap before blissful silence. The reprieve lasted for all of seven seconds before the pillow was snatched away unceremoniously and sunlight assaulted his eyelids.

“Moderation, man, I warned you.”

G slit his eyes enough to see Sam sitting on the edge of the bed, handing him a glass of water and a handful of pills. “Aspirin and some vitamins. You need to get up, ‘cause Hetty’ll have your ass if you don’t make it in this morning.”

G groaned again, sitting up just enough to swallow everything Sam gave him. “And you wondered why I tried so damn hard to make sure no one ever found out my birthday.”

Then he saw the card that Sam had given to him at the club the night before, apparently rescued from the heap his jeans and shirt were in on the floor, sitting on the bedside table. He decided that maybe letting it ‘slip’ wasn’t so bad.

comments

Title: Pain in the...
Rating: PG-13
Length: 398 words
Summary: The OSP agents have developed a rating system for injuries.
Written for : NCISDaily's March 15th prompt - coffee

"How bad was this one?" Kensi asked as Sam threw his bag on his desk and began packing up his computer, phone charger and few other things.

"Two coffees so far. But, you know, after last summer, I'm thinking if we don't start counting in double digits, it's not so bad."

It was a weird system they had, but it seemed to work for them. When one of them got hurt, the others measured the degree of injury by how many cups of coffee they had time for before the doctors came out to tell them how it was going and when the injured party (G, more often than not) would be released.

"What exactly did His Royal Coordination-ship do this time? I only heard half of the call to Hetty. And Hetty laughing." Kensi asked as she started packing up G's computer so Sam could take it with him when he headed back into the hospital.

"Tackled our suspect to the ground. Tried to push the kid to the side to avoid the board with rusty nails sticking out of it. Got that part right…"

Kensi winced, understanding how this was going to end. "What did he puncture?"

"You know… You should call him in a couple of hours. He's getting x-rays now to make sure they got all the rusty bits out and then I should be able to bring him home with me – they've already said he doesn't get released on his own recognizance since he's going to be on pain relievers and muscle relaxers. And it's kind of a 'you gotta see it to believe it.'"

"Did he put a hole in his ass?" Kensi said with far too much enthusiasm. "He did, didn't he?"

Eric came down the stairs. "Hey Sam, how is he?"

"Two coffee emergency," Sam said lightly holding up the remainder of cup number two. "He's going to be fine."

Sam turned back to Kensi, but before he could say anything Kensi looked up at Eric. "He punctured his ass." She doubled over laughing.

"G's gonna insist it's his side or his hip or something, but yeah… he got nailed in the ass. Litterally." Sam grabbed his two bags and Callen's computer satchel. "I gotta head back. I'm gonna need a third cup of coffee to deal with him if they tell him that he needs a tetanus shot."

comments
