If you don't mind a couple of tiny Brit picks - it would be more likely for Owen to be trying to ply Ianto with Lucozade rather than Powerade - they're the same sort of thing (glucose drinks) but Lucozade tends to be the drink of choice to pep you up when you get sick over here!
Also when I see "soda" I tend to think of soda water - I guess "fizzy drinks"or just the name of the brand might have been better.
But yeah I get your point that it's quite difficult to know quite how to write Jack as he is neither American or British and the accent is just completely incidental to his characterisation- very tricky one!
